The National Economic and Social Development Board (1) has received government approval to go ahead with the EighthNational Development Plan (2) which will also focus (3) on social development and environmental protection.

Kanchanaburi Governor, Suchan Pongnuae, said the Eighth Plan, which will be implemented (4) during the 1997 - 2001 fiscal year (5), has strong intention to achieve everything included inthe plan.

The Eighth Plan is expected to cause a major redirection (6) of Thailand's development policy from economic growth to improvement of the quality of life.

Kanchanaburi Governor, Suchan Pongnuae, commented about this Eighth Plan that Kanchanaburi authorities are planning strategies (7), human resource development projects (8) and a financial scheme (9) to accompany the plan.
