Lesson 12
General Background of Kanchanaburi Economics

Kanchanaburi is a central province in the western region. It is a major land for sugar cane crops and produces the most production in the country. The province is also a major tourism place and the significant source of power supply generating to all over the country as well as the major irrigation provider to the western region.

I. Listen and read the conversation.

Officer 1 : The aim of the Kanchanaburi Economics and Social Plan is to improve the basic structure in our economics.
Officer 2 : What do you mean by 'improving the basic structure in
economics ' ?
Officer 1 : It means "to do the best in public service." We'd like to decentralize all services to the rural areas as much as possible.
Officer 2 : Would you please show me some examples ?
Officer 1 : Yes, with pleasure. We have some budget this year for the villagers to solve their problems directly instead of waiting for us to help them.

Chom : Yes, you guess it very well. We can grow the sugar canes about 8 million tons per year.

Chom : Do you know, Mr.Dalton, what the most agricultural production of Kanchanaburi is?

Chom : You're right. We can grow sugar canes and send them to the sugar factories over 7 million tons per year. It costs about 3,000 million baht.
William : Oh, it is a very good source of income.
Chom : We have the sugar cane plantations in Kanchanaburi about 773,259 rais with over 22,565 workers to work on these areas.
William : So, I think Kanchanaburi has the most sugar factories in Thailand.
Chom : Yes, it does. We have 10 out of 45 sugar factories from all over the country.
